Properties: Xanthan gum is a polysaccharide. It is produced by Xanthomonas through monosaccharide fermentation. Xanthan gum is a hydrocolloid polymer. So it can be dissolved in water. Because water is the basic carrier fluid in drilling mud, hydrophilicity is the basic characteristic of xanthan gum.

Applications:
1.In drilling industry,drilling fluid acts important function. People usually refer it to as “blood of drilling”. Xanthan gum can add viscosity and shearing force, improving the suspending power of drilling fluid which is essential in using functions of the drilling fluid.
2.In oil exploitation industry,it can be used as displacing agent of oilfield exploitation. Many kinds of polymer can be used as mobility control agent in oil exploitation. Among these kinds of agent, xanthan gum is identified as the agent with most utilization potentiality. Xanthan gum contains many essential conditions required for improving oil recovery rate.
3.In food industry, it is applied as multiple purposes stabilizer, thickening agent, and processing assistant agent, including producing canning and bottled food, bakery food, dairy product, frozen food, salad seasoning, drink, brew product, candy, pastry decorating accessories and others.
4.Xanthan Gum can be widely used into cosmetic and toothpaste as stabilizer, water retaining agent or adhesive. And it can be also used together with CMC and other gel. Xanthan Gum can make the surface of product fine and smooth but not subside. It can be easy to make more small foams with different PH value and salt-resistant products.
